The Ultimate Disney World Planning Guide

Less waiting.
More riding.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass, explained like a friend would explain it.

What to book, what it costs, and what to do next. Let’s get the planning part sorted.

First, the short version

Start with three.
Keep the day going.

Multi Pass is an optional, paid way to use shorter lines at participating attractions. You book a return window, then head to the Lightning Lane entrance when it’s your turn.

01

Choose your first 3

Reserve up to three included experiences in one park before your visit.

02

Tap in and ride

Arrive during your window and scan your linked ticket, band, or phone pass.

03

Pick your next one

After using one, look for another. You can hold up to three at a time.

Additional selections depend on availability. You don’t have to use all three before looking for your next one.

Let’s talk budget

What will it cost
for your crew?

The price is per person, per day. It changes with your park and date.

Peak dates and holidays may cost more. Prices appear in My Disney Experience up to 21 days ahead; seeing a price does not mean your purchase window is open yet.

There is no single price for an entire vacation. Check each park day, then decide where the extra cost makes sense.

The $30 starting value is just an example. Enter the actual per-person Multi Pass prices shown in the app. This estimate excludes tax, park tickets, and Single Pass purchases.

Set yourself a reminder

When does your
booking window open?

7days before check-in

Disney Resort hotels and eligible select hotels. Book eligible days during your stay, up to 14 days.

3days ahead

Other guests. Date-based tickets use the ticket start date; other admission types use each park visit.

Booking opens at 7 a.m. Eastern. That is Florida time, which may differ from the time at home.

Which hotels get the 7-day window?

Disney Resort hotels, Walt Disney World Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green. Being close to Disney—or offering Early Theme Park Entry—does not automatically mean a hotel gets this benefit.

What about split stays or unusual tickets?

Ask us to check your exact reservations. Park days outside an eligible hotel stay, split hotel bookings, and special ticket types can affect what the app lets you purchase. Have your hotel reservation and tickets linked before your booking morning.

After you redeem your first selection, you can choose additional available experiences from either group. A ride listed here is not a promise of an available time or that it will be operating on your visit.

Put it into practice

Here’s how a day could unfold.

You start with three plans. Then you make room for the next one.

Before you arrive

Three return windows

Imagine you booked Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Leave space between them for walking and anything else on your schedule.

After your first tap-in

Look for the next ride

Once you use Haunted Mansion, check the app for another available experience. Peter Pan and Pirates stay on your plans.

Later in the day

Keep it flexible

Repeat as you use selections. Pick times that fit your meal, rest, and travel plans—not just the earliest thing available.

Illustrative itinerary only. Actual attractions, hours, and return times depend on availability.

Heading to a second park?

With valid Park Hopper benefits, redeem a Multi Pass selection in the park you purchased it for. You can then book available Multi Pass experiences in another park that day without buying a second Multi Pass. Your initial three selections must be in the same park.

Allow time to travel between parks. Park entry is subject to capacity; Premier Pass only covers one park.

Before booking morning

A few things to
have ready.

Do these before the coffee is brewing at 6:55 a.m.

The finer details

The questions
everyone asks.

Tap a question for the answer. Still wondering about something specific to your family?

Let’s plan your Disney trip →

Good questions lead
to better park days.

Is this the same as Genie+ or the old FastPass?

Multi Pass replaced Genie+. If you remember FastPass, the idea of a shorter line will feel familiar, but this is a paid service with its own booking rules. Old Genie+ advice about waiting two hours to book again does not describe this system.

Do we have to buy it every day—or for everyone?

No. Choose the days and people who will use it. You can use regular standby lines without purchasing Multi Pass. Someone sitting out the rides does not need a pass just because the rest of the family has one.

Can we book more than three rides?

Yes. Three is the number of Multi Pass selections you can hold at once, not a daily ride limit. After redeeming one—or once its arrival window has passed—you can check for another. More selections depend on availability; no specific number of rides is guaranteed.

Can we ride the same attraction twice?

Your Multi Pass gives you one Lightning Lane entry per included attraction per day. Want another turn? Use that attraction’s standby line if available. It is not an unlimited-repeat pass.

What if our family wants different rides?

Connect everyone through Family & Friends first. The initial Multi Pass purchase uses the same selections for the people in that purchase. Afterward, you can modify individual guests’ selections, subject to availability. Check the selected names before confirming a change.

Do children under 3 need their own pass?

Children under 3 do not need to buy Lightning Lane passes. They can join a parent with a valid selection on attractions they are eligible to ride. Height and other attraction requirements still apply. Count guests ages 3 and up who will use the service in the budget tool.

How does Rider Switch fit in?

Bring your whole party to the attraction entrance and ask a Cast Member to arrange Rider Switch. One group rides while another adult stays with the non-rider, then they switch. If the first group uses a booked Lightning Lane, everyone who will ride needs the appropriate Lightning Lane access, including the adult who rides second. Confirm the arrangement with the Cast Member before entering.

Can we change a ride, time, park, or date?

Open Lightning Lane Passes in the app and select the plan you want to change. Changes depend on availability. Modify attraction selections before their arrival window begins; change the Multi Pass park or date before using your first selection. A more expensive new date or park can require paying the difference; a cheaper one does not earn a refund.

What if we cancel or miss our return time?

Passes are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Canceling a ride selection does not refund the pass. Plan to arrive within the displayed window; if you are delayed, ask a Cast Member what is possible. Do not build your plan around an assumed early-entry or late-arrival grace period.

What if a ride is closed or the times we want are gone?

Check the app for any instructions or replacement options attached to your selection, and ask Guest Experience staff if you need help. A closure does not guarantee access to any ride you choose. For unavailable times, you can check again as plans change, but new availability is never promised.

Are photos included?

Multi Pass includes downloads of select attraction photos and videos from that day, along with Disney PhotoPass Lenses. It is not the full Memory Maker product and does not include every photo taken by a Disney photographer.

Will this get us into the park or into a special event?

No. You still need valid park admission and a park reservation if your ticket type requires one. Lightning Lane does not replace your ticket, Park Hopper benefits, or a separately ticketed event admission. Check the app for eligible operating hours.

Is it worth buying for our family?

Start with the rides you actually want, the available return times, and how long you plan to stay. A full ride-focused day may justify the extra cost. A short visit for shows, food, or a few favorites may not. Before paying, compare the available selections with your must-do list. We can help you decide park by park.
